Intrusion Detection Systems(IDS) analyze network traffic for attacks that exploit the connections between computers and the data that can be accessed via a network connection. IDS can detect the broadest range of attacks on corporate information assets which may include Denial of Service attacks which are aimed at stopping the enterprise or its customer's from accessing corporate IT assets.
The role of the network IDS is to flag and sometimes stop an attack before it gets to information assets or causes damage. IDS are effective for monitoring both inbound and outbound network traffic.
